Every year is a new playing field in the world of tech. Trends emerge, others fade, and gadgets are iterated upon. 2020 has been an exceptionally unique year overall, and that is echoed in the world of technology. Although there are far too many trends to discuss in one article, today we will look at some of the areas of tech that have taken hold in 2020.

Cobots

Everyone understands what a robot is. Robots can serve a lot of purposes, and their capabilities are increasing each year. However, are you aware of the term “cobot”? A cobot is a coworker robot that can perform many of the same tasks as a human would. Cobots are becoming a popular trend due to their use in commercial spaces, such as restaurants and retail stores. Some people are skeptical of how much work we can give robots before taking away the human experience. In the coming years, we are sure to see how humans and their robot colleagues can work together to be even more efficient in the workplace.

5G

In the past few years, 5G has been discussed as the future of cell service around the world. 5G allows for faster and richer service, but some people are concerned about its security flaws. In 2020, we are seeing more people embrace 5G and take these concerns seriously. Over the next decade, we are sure to see all major carriers switch over to 5G.

Digital Platforms

2020 has brought with it a widespread work-from-home shift that has taken much of the real world into the digital sphere. For years, we have begun to move onto digital platforms for our needs, such as Uber or Lyft for taxi service and any number of delivery apps for our dinners. In 2020, we have also seen video conferencing rise drastically. Other productivity and work-from-home apps have also become popular due to the demand. We can expect to see more digital platforms evolve and establish themselves in the coming years as we realize the need for online connectivity and services.

2020 has had a massive amount of tech trends, many of which were unforeseen in 2019. In the coming years, you can expect to see a technological resurgence as we make headway in spaces we had not thought of before.
